. . . that Latitude and Longitude were once difficult to determine?  In 1714, the British Parliament offered a prize to anyone who could provide a simple, effective solution for determining Longitude.  This led to the invention of the chronometer.  The early methods were sufficient to determine position within about a mile.  Today, survey grade GPS technology utilizing satellite signals and time measurements can allow us to determine the position of a point to about the accuracy of an area the size of a dime.
